Introduction

"Eternal truth needs a human language that alters with the spirit of the times. The primordial images undergo ceaseless transformation and yet remain ever the same, but only in a new form can they be understood anew. Always they require a new interpretation if, as each formulation becomes obsolete, they are not to lose their spellbinding power." (Carl Gustav Jung, from Psychology and the East)

"To be different, to be unique was blessed and was best of all." (Leslie Marmon Silko, from Yellow Woman and a Beauty of the Spirit)

"I did not know that; I am not certain that I know it now." (Charles Dickens, from Bleak House)

Welcome to this place about English language and literature in English. I chose these quotations because they speak about language and its power, about interpretation and uncertainty, and about the inherent instability of the human being. As you can see, these three first authors are different in nationality, ethnicity and time. But their writings add to each other and create an enriching multiple path of enjoyment and knowledge. I hope we will be able to reach that path someday...
